Peruvian Chocolate…. does life get any better?

Cacao, pronounced Cak – Cow originated from the foot hills of the Andes. It has been in Peru for centuries although it has spread across the world and is loved by many it has a special place in the hearts and stomachs of the people of Peru. While Peruvian chocolate has not been one of the most noted in the world market it is gaining more and more acceptance. Each type of Cacao has a name, Peruvian chocolate is primarily Creole, a sharp rich flavor native to only Peru.  Lucky me, got to try some today. We stumbled across the Chocolate Museum and shop and got some good information and even better Chocolate. Things to remember when buying chocolate in Peru 1. Most of the Chocolate is unsweetented. If you want sweetened go for the milk chocolate version or ask. 2. the percentage  placed on the package is stating how much Cacao is in the bar. The higher the percentage the more bitter the chocolate. 3. You can buy chocolate mixed with pretty much anything here so live a little and try some of the interesting combinations. Who knows , you might just find a new favorite. Another interesting thing you can do in Cusco is take a chocolate making class. There are several around town but per my friend Bethany who lives here, the best is at the Chocolate museum. Its easy to find just off the historical center. It just may be a fun way to spend an afternoon while  youre in town. In the store you can find just about anything you would want in chocolate flavoring from lip gloss to chocolate AXE body spray…lol. Peruvians are very proud of their chocolate , you can find some kind of chocolate dish on most menus. There is even Chocolate liquor , who can say no to that? While I did refrain from the liquor I did try the chocolate tea, and let me just say its actually pretty good.  I highly recommend trying some if you every make your way to Cusco, Im sure glad I did.
